Owning a non toxic cleaning company requires research skills, chemicals are hidden and disguised in products that even claim to be “green”. When I think of Formaldehyde, I immediately think of embalming fluid. I can’t imagine how this preservative ever found its way into our mouthwash, baby shampoo and cleaning products. Two things to consider before you read any further:
1) Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen. 2) There is no safe level of exposure to a carcinogen.
So apparently formaldehyde was removed from our products, or was it? Here is a list of 11 chemicals that are found in many common household products. When these chemicals decompose they act as formaldehyde releasers, thus releasing formaldehyde. Although you may not find the actual word “formaldehyde” on the ingredient label, you will most likely find these chemicals on the label. These chemicals RELEASE formaldehyde, so it’s still in your mouthwash, baby shampoo and cleaning products.

- Methanal
- Urea
- Oxymethylene
- 1,3-Dioxetane
- Quaternium 15
- Methylene Oxide
- Formic Aldehyde
- Oxomethane Formalin
- Phenol Formaldehyde
- Methyl aldehyde
